About the Opportunity

Golden Bear Insurance Company has an exciting opportunity for full-time E&S Underwriters - Casualty roles based in Stockton, CA, Scottsdale, AZ, and Naperville, IL. We're offering a hybrid work model with the expectation to work 4 days in the office.

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of selecting, pricing, and setting the perfect terms and conditions for brokerage commercial casualty risks. You'll have the exciting opportunity to develop and nurture strong relationships with brokers and facultative reinsurance underwriters, while sharing your industry knowledge and expertise with the team.  You will gather data from various sources, piece together a complete picture of each risk, and document files thoroughly—all within a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing assigned brokers and expanding brokerage relationships
  • Enhancing production sources and identifying profitable market opportunities
  • Analyzing submissions to evaluate risk based on individual characteristics and exposure
  • Adhering to reinsurance treaties and underwriting guidelines
  • Pre-qualifying submissions and leveraging in-house and external information sources for thorough risk assessment
  • Utilizing creativity and underwriting expertise to write and retain risks within company guidelines
  • Documenting operations, loss history, pricing rationale, and risk pros & cons comprehensively in the underwriting summary
  • Communicating persuasively with brokers regarding underwriting decisions, including cancellations, declinations, and coverage strategies
  • Traveling nationwide to visit brokers, and attending insurance conferences and educational seminars

What You'll Bring To The Table

In order to qualify for this role, you must have a Bachelor’s degree, with 4+ years of related experience, ideally in primary casualty or excess casualty brokerage.

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Extensive relationships with wholesale brokers
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent written and oral communication abilities
  • Industry form knowledge and understanding
  • Proficient in working independently and as a member of a diverse team, fostering productive relationships
  • Excellent analytical, judgment, and promotional abilities
  • Ability to work under time constraints and in a high-volume, and fast-paced environment
  • Proven computer skills
  • Willingness and capacity to travel nationally as needed
